I'm Tori Carter, and I'm thrilled to share the incredible journey Kirk Rickman and I have been on since we decided to redefine retirement. This personal blog post is an invitation to you to join us on this adventure of a lifetime. We are a Canadian Couple who live on cruise ships!
Six years ago, life took an unexpected turn when I suffered a back injury, prompting Kirk and me to reassess our priorities. The loss of a dear friend added a poignant reminder that life is too short to wait for dreams to come true. So, at the end of 2022, we made a bold decision – we sold our home in Brighton, Ontario, Canada, and set sail to explore the world on cruise ships.
Our story is not just about visiting countries and territories (78 so far!), but about the unique experiences of "cruise hopping." We see each cruise ship as a destination in itself, and it's been nothing short of extraordinary.

In this blog, I'm letting you in on the behind-the-scenes of our planning process. We book our cruises well in advance, often on older vessels to find the best deals. But, let's talk about the real deal – the costs. From port fees to taxes, travel insurance, and more, cruising full-time requires some financial savvy. We even make pit stops in Canada to keep our access to the healthcare system intact.
Living at sea has its challenges – giving up certain conveniences, adjusting to time zone changes, and maintaining intentional habits. But, oh, the joy of meeting new people! Our friendships may be like a revolving door, but the stories we gather are unforgettable.
